Description
This beautiful specimen of a spider, the agriope aurantia, which is commonly referred to as a writing spider, black and yellow garden spider or corn spider, stoicly sits upon its web in the front garden of my home. You will most commonly fine the writing spider situated in the center of it's circular web straddling the zig zag pattern or the stabilimentum. Although the writing spider is not considered poisonous to humans, common folklore suggests that if the writing spider spells your name in it's web, you will soon die. Truly though, as menacing as they may appear, if you should ever get bitten by a writing spider, only those who may be allergic to the spider's venom would suffer any reaction to a bite. If you should be lucky enough to have one of these spiders to visit your garden, just let them be. Their insect eating benefits outway fears of these spiders.
